Hanoi

Upon arrival, welcome by the local guide at Hanoi airport and check-in at the hotel.

The day is at leisure in the Vietnamese capital. Overnight in Hanoi.

Hanoi

After breakfast, explore the capital city, including the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (closed on Mondays and Fridays), his former residence, the one-Pillar Pagoda and Tran Quoc Pagoda.

Then, depart to the Museum of Ethnology (closed on Monday), a museum which focuses on the 54 officially recognized ethnic groups in Vietnam.

In the afternoon, visit the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university. Then, enjoy a rickshaw tour of the capital and spend some time wandering in the old quarter and its antique shops before visiting Ngoc Son Temple.

Early evening, enjoy a water puppet show, featuring sketches about the daily life and beliefs of the rural people.

Hanoi → Hoa Lu → Hanoi

After breakfast, travel through the countryside to Hoa Lu, the capital of Vietnam during the 10th century.

On arrival, enjoy a bicycle ride to Bich Dong Pagoda and continue to Thung Nang Pier. Then board on a small sampan boat for a spectacular cruise through one cave and numerous waterways, passing through beautiful rural sceneries of limestone cliffs and rice paddies.

In the afternoon, visit Dinh Tien Hoang and Le Dai Hanh Dynasty Temples before traveling by road back to Hanoi.

Overnight in Hanoi.

Hanoi → Halong Bay

After breakfast, travel by road to the majestic Halong Bay, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Arrive in Halong by midday and board a junk for a memorable cruise through the mystical Halong Bay. Enjoy a delicious lunch on board and spend the day admiring one of the natural marvels of Vietnam.

Visit islets, caves and if the weather permits, enjoy a swim in the jade waters of the Gulf of Tonkin.

Dinner and overnight on the junk.

Note: The private guide is not authorized to accompany passengers on board the junk. For the duration of the cruise the guide will be replaced by a local guide.

Halong Bay → Hanoi → Hue

After breakfast, the cruise resumes its course, navigating between the karts, some of which display extraordinary shapes. The cruise ends at around 11 am, then drive back to Hanoi.

On the way, stop at the traditional ceramics factory at Phu Lang Village in Bac Ninh for a short walk along the street lined with varieties of workshops of home-made ceramic products.

Return back to Hanoi in the middle of the afternoon. The time is at leisure until the transfer to the railway station for the night train to Hue (guests are given a sleeping bag by the tour guide).

Hue

Arrive in Hue in the morning. Welcome by the local guide and transfer to the hotel for breakfast. Rooms are available from 2pm and the rest of the morning is at leisure.

In the afternoon, explore Hue, the ancient capital of Vietnam, listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO - a great sprawling complex of temples, pavilions, moats, walls, gates, shops, museums and galleries, featuring art and costumes from various periods of Vietnamese history. Then visit the Celestial Lady Pagoda, one of the most venerated sites in the city of Hue.

The day ends with an enchanting cruise on the famous Perfumes River.

Hue → Danang → Hoi An

After breakfast, visit the mausoleum of Emperor Minh Mang and the tomb of Emperor Tu Duc. Together, they form a huge park where the beauty nature is everywhere.

Then, depart to Danang via the Hai Van Pass. On arrival, visit the Cham Archaeological Museum with an extremely rich collection, tracing the history of this lost civilization.

Then, resume the journey to the port town of Hoi An, recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Hoi An

After breakfast, pick up from the hotel to visit the famous Old Quarter of Hoi An. Walk around Hoi An ancient town and explore its treasures. The buildings and street plan reflect the influences, both indigenous and foreign, that have combined to produce this unique heritage site. Then, visit a lantern making cottage and learn how to make one.

In the afternoon, enjoy an excursion by boat on the Thu Bon River with a stop, along the way, at a traditional ceramic and carpentry village.

The rest of the day is at leisure.

Hoi An → Danang → Ho Chi Minh City

After breakfast, transfer to Danang Airport for your morning flight to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).

On arrival, welcome by the local guide and discover the bustling Saigon. Enjoy a tour in the Colonial Residential Quarter including the City Hall, Opera House, the contemporary Reunification Palace (inside) and the elegant 19th century Notre-Dame Cathedral. Then stroll around the Central Post Office.

In the afternoon, visit the War Remnants Museum, Cho Lon Pagoda, Thien Hau Pagoda and the bustling Binh Tay Market.

Finally, end the day with a visit of a lacquer ware factory and discover the secrets of this ancient art.

After breakfast, drive to Cai Be in the heart of the Mekong Delta.

On arrival, board on a sampan boat for a cruise on the Mekong River and its myriad of canals to Vinh Long. Visit an old colonial house and a rice popcorn factory. Enjoy a tasting of local specialties for lunch.

In the afternoon, continue the journey to Vinh Long and then drive to Can Tho, the largest town in the Mekong Delta.

Can Tho → My Tho → Ho Chi Minh City

After an early breakfast, depart to visit the Cai Rang floating market, where each day the boats are filled with fruits and vegetables. The journey through the arroyos leads to a fruit garden, Ba Cong, for a tasting of tropical fruits.

Then, visit the 100 years old Binh Thuy Ancient House and its peaceful surroundings. Observe the rural life and admire the lush vegetation along the riverbanks and discover the Can Tho market before driving back to Ho Chi Minh City.

Enjoy a vegetarian lunch at Phuoc Long pagoda, this pagoda is famous for its collection of antiques and for the excellent vegetarian food prepared by the monks.

In the afternoon, continue the journey to Ho Chi Minh City and stop to visit a Cao Dai Temple (or Vinh Trang pagoda if Tay Ninh is already included in the program).

Arrive at the hotel late in the afternoon.
