Hanoi city tour

With ochre-colored colonial buildings, tree-lined boulevards and scenic lakes, Hanoi is full of charm. After breakfast, start your tour with Thang Long Citadel (closed on Mondays & 11:30 - 13:30 daily). Built in the 11th century by the Ly Viet Dynasty, the Citadel was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010. The ancient site was the political center of the country for 13 consecutive centuries and served as the capital of Vietnam for eight centuries.

Visit the underground war bunker in the same compound. The bunker played an important role in the American war, especially during the 12 days and nights of the Ha Noi - Dien Bien Phu air battle in 1972. Continue to the Temple of Literature, the first University for the sons of mandarins, for an overview about Hanoian culture and an appreciation for ancient Vietnamese architecture. Drive back to central Hanoi for a walking tour through the Old Quarter to enjoy the bustling local life.

Hanoi street food tour

Eating on the street is a very typical activity for Hanoians and makes up an important part of the city’s unique culture. In the afternoon, depart at 15:30 for a leisurely walk with our foodie expert to the Old Quarter. Make your first stop to taste the national dish of Vietnamese - Pho Ga (chicken noodle soup). Then wander around a local market to enjoy the sights, the sounds and the aroma from hundreds of kinds of food on offer. Then sit down at a tiny Banh Duc shop to try a bit of Banh Duc - cooked rice powder with Vietnamese spices. Banh Ducwill be served hot or cool, depends on weather.

Your next stop is a little shop selling many different types of traditional Northern cakes such as Com cake (young rice) which is considered to be a part of every Hanoians childhood. Follow your foodie to a small alley to get an idea of a typical tube houses of Hanoi. You will stop at Banh My Lan Ong and try their famous bread with Pate. After the banh mi, you can enjoy some Vietnamese desserts - sweet soups called Che.

Then cap off your trip by tasting a cup of Vietnamese egg coffee before returning back to your hotel. Late check-out at hotel is included. Late evening, you will be transferred to the train station with guide for your overnight train to Lao Cai.

Sapa trekking

Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Sapa with your guide. Breakfast will be served at the hotel. After breakfast, start your trekking tour. Winding through hilly terrain and terraced paddy fields, the road out of Sapa leads to Cat Cat village, just 2 km from the town (you can either walk from your hotel or be shuttled by support minivan to the village).

A leisurely walk of 3km through the old village offers an overview of the traditional customs and practices of the ethnic Black Hmong. Stop by the stunning waterfall and the vestige of a hydroelectric power station constructed by the French during the colonial era. Follow a dirt trail sneaking through the mountains along a narrow river and enjoy the spectacular scenery, after 2 km trekking, you reach Y Linh Ho village, also home to the Black Hmong minority.

Take a rest by the river before trekking back to the road where your driver will take you back up to Sapa town. Arrive at your hotel early in the afternoon. The total trekking distance is 5 km.

Departing Sapa at about 08:30 by vehicle, heading northwards on national road 4C for 8 km to O Quy Ho with several stops for photos of Fansipan Mountain and Sin Chai Valley - the beautiful landscape vista of flower and vegetable farms. Then turn right and follow a narrow tarmac road for half an hour, passing rain forests and waterfalls before arriving to Ban Khoang commune which is home to the Black H’mong and Red Dzao ethnic groups.

Spend over an hour walking to explore this remote village for a brief understanding of local life. Then leaving Ban Khoang and continue by road for about 10 km to Ta Giang Phinh valley which is inhabited by the Black H’mong who live in several hamlets along a peaceful stream. Enjoy an hour lunch break on the bank of the stream.

After lunch, enjoy about 2-hours walking along a village path which connects hamlet to hamlets and observe daily activities of the locals such as ploughing, harrowing, harvesting or doing house works. The walk ends in mid-afternoon, when we meet the car and transfer back to Sapa.

Tra Nhieu village is a peaceful area where typical features of Vietnamese villages are now still maintained. From Hoi An, by boat along Thu Bon river, 3 km toward the southeast, you will reach Cam Kim island. Start cycling 10 km through the winding village roads where you can enjoy fresh air, beautiful and poetic scenery.

Tra Nhieu village has a wide range of livelihood such as farming, fishing, poultry and livestock breeding, mattress making. Learn about the diversity of local plants herbs. Stop by some local families to get a glimpse how they live on making rice wine, rice noodle and rice paper. Then head to stunning water coconut jungle and try rowing the traditional bamboo basket boats. End the trip with a delicious lunch in the garden of local family house. Transfer back to Hoi An town.

After breakfast, enjoy a 2-hour drive northwest of Saigon to the famous Cu Chi tunnels. The tunnel complex was initially started in 1948 to protect the Viet Cong guerrillas from the French air and ground sweeps. The tunnels also served as communication routes, storage facilities for food and weapon caches as well as hospitals and living quarters for guerrilla fighters throughout the American war.

A visit to the underground villages will provide a better understanding of the tunnels’ history, the hardship of life in the tunnels and the Vietnamese resilience during combat. Return to Saigon.

Saigon city tour

Saigon is the country’s commercial center and, with over eight million inhabitants and four million motorbikes, a city that never sleeps. Despite the well-documented hustle and bustle, Saigon retains its connections with the past.

In the afternoon, enjoy a city tour to admire Saigon’s historic landmarks including the Notre Dame Cathedral, a red brick edifice with twin spires based on the original construction from Paris (it is only possible to visit inside when no service is being performed). Then head across the square to the Central Post Office, designed by the French architect, Gustave Eiffel. Continue your visit with the former Presidential Palace, the headquarters of the Saigon Government during the American war, revealing the history of Saigon during its turbulent recent past.

Further, drive to visit the War Remnants Museum for a vivid insight of the American war through the local’s eyes. Then sit down at a street coffee shop for a break to observe the daily life of the locals, and have a little personal chat with your guide over a cup of coffee. Your guide will give you some interesting tips such as how to cross the road without breaking a sweat or to say a few simple words in Vietnamese as well as offer an insight of the local’s daily lives.

After breakfast, depart Saigon and drive south to Ben Tre province. Situated in the Delta of Mekong River, Ben Tre is famous for its tropical fruit gardens and traditional handicrafts made of coconuts. Your first stop at Ben Tre is a brick kiln to see how the locals still use centuries-old traditional methods to make the bricks by hand.

Then board on your private boat and start cruising to a coconut workshop where you can learn about the multiple uses of coconut in the daily life. Back on board for another short cruise to a small family-run mat workshop. Get involved in learning how to make sleeping mats under the instruction of the friendly mat-makers.

Afterward, get on tuk-tuk (or hop on a local bicycle and ride of 3 km) and travel along the narrow shady village roads to admire the tranquility of the Mekong villages. Arrive at the Garden House of a tropical fruit farmer and enjoy a walk around his orchard. Chat with the farmer whilst tasting fresh seasonal fruits in his garden. Hop on your tuk-tuk (or bike) and continue your leisure sight-seeing. If requested, take an optional stop en-route at a small wooden chopsticks workshop.

Continue touring around these sleepy villages until arriving at a charming local restaurant for lunch. After lunch, have a short break before getting on a sampan for rowing through the idyllicwater palm creek. Arrive at your main boat and cruise back to Hung Vuong Pier where your driver awaits for continuing on a 2-hour drive to Can Tho. Arrive in Can Tho at your hotel where you will be free at leisure this evening.
