Walking city tour
Between the 17th and 19th centuries, Hoi An was a prosperous trading port. Today, this World Heritage-listed ancient town boasts well-preserved buildings, pedestrian streets and unique cuisine, allowing visitors a glimpse of its illustrious past. The narrow lanes are ideal for a guided walking tour. There is plenty to visit including the old merchant’s houses with influences from Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese architecture; the 400-year-old Japanese Covered Bridge; the Assembly Hall of the Chaozhou Chinese Congregation with outstanding wood carvings; and the colorful market with stalls brimming with local specialties including silk, which can be turned into fashionable garments within a day or two. Lunch at Banana Leaf Restaurant.
Private red bridge cooking school experience
Set in three acres of lush tropical gardens, Red Bridge cooking school is one of the highlights of the culinary scene in Hoi An. Meet up with your chef at Hai Cafe in the old town for a brief introduction and a welcome drink. Meander through Hoi An’s central market with your chef to enjoy the sights, sounds and aromas. This is your chance to learn about how to select fresh produce and ingredients essential for Vietnamese cuisine. Embark on a 20 minutes boat trip to the school. Get your camera ready as the cruise offers glimpses of local river life. Upon arrival visit the school’s herb garden before enjoying a private hands-on cooking class. After the lesson, sit down and eat what you have created in the lovely restaurant overlooking the river.
Overnight at the hotel.
After breakfast, setting off from Hoi An ancient town, guests will take the river aboard a local bike ferry and head into the morning of Cam Kim island’s fishing port, stopping at a traditional boat builders yard before setting off to explore the relaxing island villages.
Zig-zagging through breathtaking scenery of rice paddies and farmland, taking stops along the way to learn from friendly local families the art of mat weaving, farming and how to make (and eat) the perfect banh dap (rice cracker). Riding into a small village we stop at a local café to fuel up on local drip-coffee, gearing up for an adrenalin pumping 300m bamboo bridge river crossing to the opposing landscape of the sea-board side of the island making our way to Duy Hai market and harbor.
Here, the local ferry crossing takes guests to the water coconut palm fringed Cam Thanh and beyond to Tra Que Fishing Village for a fish cracker stop, before our final seafood lunch on the shores of the beautiful Ha My beach. Transfer from your Hoi An hotel to Danang airport for your flight for next destination.
