Rice painting studio visit

Vietnam has become one of the biggest rice exporters. For centuries, rice is not only related to farm work but also the cultural and spiritual life. There have been many art performances relating to rice, one of those is rice painting. Rice was selected and meticulously preserved in the right techniques. After having been treated with heat, rice is arranged on a wooden frame for painting. Pay a visit to a small home studio of a local artists family. Have a chat with them to get an insight of the soul of each picture that the artisans create. With your patience, you might want to try your hand using tweezers to put rice grains into an artwork your way.

Gala dinner at Ambassador's former residence

Follow a trail through an alley dotted with colonial era mansions until you reach a gate, behind of which an enchanting home awaits. The US Ambassador to South Vietnam in the 1960s, Henry Cabot Lodge, lived in this stylish residence from 60- 65 and today it has been restored to its former glory. Perfectly suited to social gatherings for up to 40 persons, guests will enjoy a cocktail reception complete with traditional dance performances in an intimate courtyard. A sophisticated Vietnamese meal will be served in the magnificent dining room and is accompanied by live music to create a memorable atmosphere.

Saigon half day city tour

Saigon is the country’s commercial center and, with over eight million inhabitants and four million motorbikes, it is a city that never sleeps. Despite the well-documented hustle and bustle, Saigon retains its connections with the past. Enjoy a city tour to admire Saigon’s historic landmarks including Notre Dame Cathedral, a red brick building with twin spires based on the original construction from Paris (it is only possible to visit inside when no service is being performed). Then head across the square to the Central Post Office, designed by the French architect, Gustave Eiffel.

Continue your visit with the former Presidential Palace, the headquarters of the Saigon Government during the American war, revealing the history of Saigon during its turbulent recent past. Further, drive to visit the War Remnants Museum for a vivid insight of the American war through the local’s eyes. Then sit down at a street coffee shop for a break to observe the daily life of the locals, and have a little personal chat with your guide over a cup of coffee. Your guide will give you some interesting tips such as how to cross the road without breaking a sweat or to say a few simple words in Vietnamese as well as offer an insight of the local’s daily lives.
