Hue City Highlights Tour

Princess Ngoc Son residence visit

After breakfast, proceed to the home of a well-known historian, writer and conservationist - Mr. Phan Thuan An. The house we visit is the former residence of Princess Ngoc Son and an excellent example of traditional Vietnamese architecture. Share experiences while discussing with him to get an in-depth insight into the culture and history of this former Royal land. While there, take time to admire his stunning collection of artifacts and mementos from the days of the Empire.

Imperial Citadel tour

Next, start with a 10-minute cyclo ride from your hotel to the Imperial Citadel, a UNESCO listed site. Enter through the towering main gate and you will appreciate the magnificent architecture and gardens while your guide explains the events and the intrigue of the former royal court. Despite being bombed heavily, there are some incredibly well preserved sections still intact and others which are being lovingly restored. From there, the vehicle will take you to visit Thien Mu pagoda, Hue’s best-preserved religious monument.

Royal Tombs tour

Standing on the riverbank with its seven-storey tower, the pagoda is a sight to behold. In the afternoon, drive out 30 minutes to the elaborate Khai Dinh Royal Tomb. Its architecture and atmosphere showcase elements of eastern art and western designs. Continue to the serene Tu Duc Royal Tomb, designed to blend in with its natural surroundings and built on principles of feng-shui. Cooking Class & Traditional Village visit

Hoi An cooking class

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Hoi An town to enjoy a 15-minute boat ride to a local market with a chef from Market Restaurant and Cooking School. Your chef will share with you how to pick a fresh egg, which herbs to buy and how to select ripe fruit. Head over to the school, an elegant old building with a French colonial style exterior and traditional Hoi An interior. Then participate in an entertaining, hands-on cookery course with other guests. Chat with your chef to learn more about typical ingredients of Central Vietnamese cuisine then enjoy tasting what you have prepared.

Traditional village visit

After lunch, drive away from the hustle and bustle of Hoi An downtown to the little-known peaceful village trimmed with the green of bamboo surrounds. This village is a traditional Vietnamese village where the locals still preserve its ancient methods from mooring, ferry boats, old houses to temple traditions. Start with a leisurely boat cruise before strolling around the zigzagging alleys to chat with the villagers.

Stop by some local families to get a glimpse how they earn their livelihoods making traditional crafts of mat-weaving, cement statues and noodles. Visit the community garden to learn about the diversity of local plants, herbs and chat with the farmers. Meander to an ancient house built in 19th century with Vietnamese and French architectural influences. End the trip with a relaxing bamboo raft. Transfer back to your hotel.
