The northern city of Chiang Mai is considered Thailand’s cultural capital, while also sitting near some of the country’s top natural attractions, most within half an hour’s drive of the old town. Furthermore, many people also know that Chiang Mai street-food stalls and shop houses boast incredible northern Thai cuisine and delicious snacks.

Biking in Chiang Mai
After breakfast, half day bicycling excursion through the southern part of Chiang Mai is an amazing way to observe local rural life and get off the beaten path. The routing is along quiet and green roads, passing the former Lanna capital, Wiang Kum Kam. Take a look at the temples and ruins that date back hundreds of years. Continue with a visit to a Chinese temple and the McKean rehabilitation centre, which houses a former leper colony. Continue by bicycle and visit a special school for monks where most of the pupils are hill tribe children.
Make a stop at a small pottery village where you can see how they produce different shapes of pottery by hand. Ride along the Ping River and take in the local atmosphere that makes Chiang Mai so special. Make a stop at a local bakery where you can try a delicious sweet bun while watching them make many other different products by hand. Later stop at a market to observe how these products are traded, and to try some of the most delicious and exotic fresh fruits and other snacks. Along the way, you will have lunch with Thai meal at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, start with a visit to a local Northern food and flower market where local Thai do their shopping. Visit Wat Suan Dok where ashes of former Kings of Chiang Mai and the Royal Family are kept. Continue with a visit to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Mountain, which was founded in 1383 A.D. In 1935 a road was built to the top, but nowadays people climb the 309 steps from the car park to the top or take a tram for a small surcharge. The climb up is rewarded with a superb panoramic view over the city. Return to the car park for the transfer back to Chiang Mai where you will finish the day with a 20 minute rickshaw ride through the quiet streets of the old town.
Khantoke dinner and hill tribe show
The Khantoke dinner is traditionally related to the people of the northern region. Dinner is served in small bowls, known in Thai as Khan. Guests are seated on cushions at a low table, known as Toke in Thai. The cuisine served typical of the northern Thai Lanna style. and during dinner, entertainment is provided by traditional dancers, who will perform the FornLeb, known as the finger dance, FornThien, known as the candle dance, Ramwong, referred to as the circle dance and the Ram Dab, known as the sword dance.

2 hour elephant riding at Thai Elephant home
After breakfast, we will pick you up in Chiang Mai at your hotel. After arriving, you will change into traditional northern style clothes. You will meet the elephants and practice using commands to ride and control the elephants.
Then we will take your elephants for a ride around the jungle. Ride your elephant to the river and give them a bathe. Return to the Thai Elephant Home to shower, enjoy fresh fruit.
Return to Chiang Mai.
