Indawgyi Lake

After breakfast, drive to Indawgyi Lake, the largest lake in Myanmar.

The lake remains pristine and undeveloped, it’s still possible to find places where you won’t hear the engine of a boat or any sound for that matter –or be able to see a single other boat– in contrast to its smaller and more touristy cousin Inle Lake.

The most famous landmark at Indawgyi Lake, Shwe Myitzu Pagoda is beautiful from the water, especially as it casts its reflection in the late afternoon sunlight.

We end the day with Amarapura, one of the ancient capitals of the Burmese Empire founded during the Konbaung dynasty, which was twice the capital. Nowadays only a few ruins of this capital remain, being the main attraction of the place the famous bridge of U Bein, the longest in the world built in teak wood. In this area there is the monastery of Mahagandayon, a large-scale example of monastic schools throughout the country, with about 1,200 monks mainly novices.
