Pak Ou Caves & Kuang Si Waterfall

After breakfast, we will visit The National Museum at the former Royal Palace, which displays a lovely collection of artifacts reflecting the richness of Lao culture throughout the ages.

We will enjoy a short-guided tour of the city's oldest temple, the magnificent Wat Xieng Thong where you can see its impressive tree of life mosaic set in colored glass. We then board an upstream cruise on the Mekong River, which will give us a panoramic view of the tranquil countryside. We’ll make sure to stop at the Pak Ou Caves, sanctuaries consisting of two large caverns, both repositories for thousands of Buddha images.

We will also stop at a few villages during the day, including Ban Xanghai where the local rice wine is produced. Once back in Luang Prabang city we take a visit to Ban Xang Khong and Ban Xieng Lek - small villages well known for silk weaving and Saa (Jute) paper-making.

In the afternoon, we will drive to the beautiful Khouangsi Waterfalls where you can swim in the turquoise pools or walk along forest paths.

On our return to the city, we will climb to the top of Mount Phou Si to explore the sacred, gilded stupa and to capture a beautiful view of the city and the Mekong River at sunset. From there, we visit the Night Market, where you can browse through a lovely selection of handmade textiles.

Plain Of Jars

After breakfast, we will travel through the mountains and valleys of Laos as you enjoy the scenery, stopping at viewpoints and the hill tribe villages of the Hmong and Khmu. After having lunch at local restaurant. We will visit the Russian tank which broke during the Indochina War.

We will visit the famous Plain of Jars, a vast area extending around Phonsavanh from the south-west to the north-east. Mysterious and ancient, over 300 huge stone jars apparently carved out of solid rock are scattered around the plateau. The jars vary in size from 1 to 3.25 meters high and weigh up to six tons each. There are several different theories as to the purpose of the jars, which are estimated to be 2,500 to 3,000 years old. According to the local legend, King Khun Chuang had them constructed in order to store wine for the celebration of his conquest of the province in the 6th century. Today's tour will focus on Site I.

Afterwards continue to Muang Khoun, an ancient capital and stronghold for the Xieng Khuang royal family which was destroyed during the Indochina War. The town was rebuilt after 1975 with rows of wooden Lao houses and a market area and is surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. Visit Wat Phia That and That Foun
